New FZERO will have a top speed of over 220mph

Rodin Cars has announced a summer 2023 arrival for its “faster-than-an-F1-car” FZERO.

After having produced the FZED F1-based track day car, the New Zealand company has now decided to take things a step further.

At a press conference held at its Donington Park showroom, company founder and CEO David Dicker revealed what we should expect from the company’s latest track-only single-seater.

A scale model of the FZERO shows that the car will be Batmobile-like, not too unlike a Le Mans Hypercar, with a covered cockpit.

The idea is to give its owner “no limits” performance.

Car will have lower weight and higher downforce than an F1 car

“We’re going to get the weight down from 698kg,” said Dicker, “with a downforce higher than you get in F1. It will easily be 50kg less than an F1 car.”

Propelled by a bespoke RCTEN 4-litre twin-turbo hybrid V10 which is linked up with a 130kW electric motor, the power unit currently gives 1100bhp, “but we’ll wind it up to 1300,” Dicker added, “while the custom electric motor will fill in the torque a bit.

There are now two sure-fire ways to get behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car. One requires the backing of a Canadian billionaire, the other a (slightly) more modest…

“The only real restrictions we face are the laws of physics, and we have even pushed those to the absolute limit. We look forward to bringing the most intense driving experience conceivable to tracks around the world.”

The car will be eight-speed and many of the components are 3D-printed titanium. Its rose gold-coloured wheel rims, on display at the press launch, are 18in forged magnesium produced to F1 standard.

“It should do 360[kph; 223mph] pretty easy on the straight – and the straight won’t need to be that long,” Dicker said.

The experience will remain exclusive however – Rodin will only produce 27 examples of the FZero.

The price of this 1300bhp monster is yet to be announced.

Only 27 examples of the FZERO will be available to buy
