The Chinese ace smartphone maker Huawei has taken its first step in the automobile industry with the hybrid SF5 SUV, and it looks pretty futuristic.
With the aim of product diversification, the Chinese tech giant Huawei launched its first car, SF5 SUV, in collaboration with electric car and component manufacturer Cyrus. The vehicle was unveiled at Auto Shanghai 2021 and shall be available in all Huawei stores across China under the brand name SERES. The car is featured with a company special DriveOne electric-gasoline hybrid propulsion system, and as per the company claim, it shall offer matchless performance and a significantly higher range.
In terms of competition amongst tech debutants in the automobile market, Huawei has already beaten Apple by launching its car first. Apple has planned to launch its EV in the market by 2024-25; hence Huawei already has an edge over the American smartphone giant.
The SF5 SUV is packed with some extraordinary and innovative features, and here's a glimpse at what Huawei's maiden automobile looks like.

This flag-bearer SUV of Huawei is built around a lightweight aluminum chassis suspended by a four-ball joint double-wishbone front suspension and trapezoidal multi-link rear suspension on optional 20/21-inch alloy wheels. The car's body is designed neatly while following the conventional crossover outlook with intelligently crafted improvisations. The vehicle's overall dimensions are 4,700mm in length, 1,930mm in width, and it stands at 1,625mm with a 2,875mm long wheelbase.
The Seres SF5 has a sporty design at the front and a roof with curvy lines and is available in four elegant colors - Titanium Silver Grey, Charcoal Black, Deep Ocean Blue, and Pearl White. At the front, the inspiring LED design gives this car a cool fascia. The sleek LED headlights are complemented by L-shaped curvy DRLs that extend up to the bottom of the front bumper. A matching mesh grille in between the headlights adds more charm to the styling. On the sides, it has a neat design without any junky pieces and a tapering roofline. The LEDs dominate the rear too and cover the entire width of the back.
Keeping the design modern, the interior sports a neat and unbusy dashboard. The most eye-catching element is the centrally mounted 17-inch infotainment display. Powered by Huawei's HiCar system, the massive touch screen is capable of various smart features. The system allows the riders to access both the smartphone's applications and the infotainment system's features simultaneously. It also recognizes voice commands so that drivers can focus more on the road. With 11 speakers on the inside, Huawei's surround sound system offers a theatre-like entertainment environment.
Customers can choose from three color schemes of Midnight Black, Garnet Red, and Ivory White trims for their own SF5 SUV. To provide additional comfort and luxury, the front seats offer ventilation and heating along with massage functions. The interior upholstery is designed with upscale leather, metallic accents, and exclusive wooden inserts. The controls are featured in the driver's console with flat bottomed steering with mounted controls and a digital MID. This SUV features a drivetrain which shall be the next level of hybrid propulsion system. Dubbed as the 'DriveOne' or 'Three-in-One Electric Drive' this system is composed of a motor controller, a motor, and a reducer. Together with the electric motor, the Huawei SF5 has a 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that generates power for the battery pack along with its wheels.
Huawei claims that the batteries and two electric motors can solely drive this vehicle for 112 miles, and in hybrid mode, the range is extended to an incredible 621 miles. When the car uses the three power sources cumulatively, it generates 551 HP and 604 lb-ft of torque that can boost the car from 0 to 62 mph in 4.68 seconds. The powertrain is offered in both two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The most spectacular feature of SF5 is its ability to refuel. A feature usually observed in aircraft is packed in Huawei's SF5. With this technology, the vehicle will be capable of vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging and vehicle-to-load (V2L) charging. The former can charge other EVs or Hybrid vehicles, and in the latter, it can charge other electric equipment like a Laptop.
Huawei SF5 is a new sensation in a less competitive yet flourishing segment of hybrid cars. To match its reputation, Huawei has packed the automobile with some extraordinary features. Though the sale, for now, is limited only to China, the Seres SF5 is expected to hit international shores in the near future.
